Some of the birds who depend on the lake itself, such as ducks and shorebirds, have scattered to every remaining reservoir, pond, or puddle in the area. After investigating the area between the towns of Araró and AndocutÃn, I soldiered on to the equally-small town of Iramuco. And it brought friends.

Further support for inherent behavior comes from experiments. In another experiment, other species of Darwin Finches were kept next to Woodpecker Finches that used tools. As our Gypsy comes to a halt, one Oriental Honey Buzzard is investigating the new arrivals. The Little Egret walks in front of her, a dozen Lesser Whistling Ducks flies noisily low above water and through a flooded grass wades one Black-winged Stilt. Finally, the shores of the Telia lie in front of us.

We had our first encounter with a Musk Duck in New South Wales here and then continued on to the reserve. An Australian Raven was investigating the area between the forest and the coast and concentrating on something that was not apparent to us! It is the perfect spot to have a picnic and stroll and experience a wide variety of birds.

Ducks are easier prey for the Eagle. Non-bird watchers without binoculars and experience are notoriously bad sources of information. The new offspring of that year hang back and leave later, finding their way to their wintering grounds using something other than experience, and something other than being taught by their parents.
