Then it’s a matter of doing a little research on the internet to find who rang the bird you saw, and then emailing the details of your sighting. Only when I downloaded my images did I spot the ring, which was clear and easy to read (2BAT). Once again I did my internet research and managed to contact the person who had ringed the gull.

Happily, authors tom Stephenson and Scott Whittle are still supporting The Warbler Guide websit e, which offers free nifty Finder Guides of warblers up close, from the side, from a 45-degree angle and from below, which can be downloaded and carried about for quick reference. This is a guide for all birders. Imagine a world without warblers.

I’m hoping the authors and Princeton University will add a corrected page to their website that users can download, or, even better, add an errata page to all books currently being sold (I know that’s an expensive proposition). ” It does not, as I noted above, include bird anatomy terms.

I know from experience how accessible Dennis is, last year he helped me identify a damselfly I photographed in Costa Rica (Argia anceps, no common name). A longer reference list that includes scientific articles can be downloaded from the Princeton University Press web site.

Wich’yanan graduated with a Master’s Degree in Biology and has been involved in a number of ornithological research projects in Thailand, as well as being a freelance guide. The paintings are, no doubt beautiful, but how successful they are, I can judge only by checking those birds I have a lot of experience with.
