Over the course of the following hour or so we observed many different species *coincidentally* alight on the wall near to the body of the fallen yellowlegs. Elephants, peccaries, and corvids have all been documented processing the death of (as we put it) a loved one.

Members of the genus Pachycereus , there are a couple of species which are quite prevalent here on the southern Baja. The Aborigines Hairbrush , and the Elephant Cactus. And this is the bloom for the Elephant Cactus. Once the fruit is ripe, it becomes a primary source for many species. Then, let the feeding frenzy begin!

Despite being an ordinary family with the usual interests in elephants, lions, tigers and the likes (there are sadly no Banded Pittas at Heidelberg Zoo), there is one feature that has been our main attraction and focus for the last few months: the duck pond. He doesn’t go there for the ducks, but for the fish.

The one bird I did not see here, however, was the Bateleur Eagle … One highlight in the area is the Saddle-billed Stork , likely to be the tallest species in the stork family. Habitat loss, as documented by hieroglyphs. Hence, this species has earned the German colloquial common name “Nimmersatt”; meaning “never full”.

There are quite a few raptor species around Skukuza. Most likely, the devil, not god created this species. While some bustards are the largest bird species capable of flight, the Black-bellied Bustard is only mid-sized. It is also documented on video. African Spoonbills seem unfazed by large reptiles.

Anyone considering a visit to Panti Forest should be enticed by the five different species that might be seen there. Plus, I saw awesome bats, bugs, butterflies, herps, pitcher plants, and four of the five possible monkey species: Dusky Leaf Monkey , Banded Leaf Monkey , Southern Pig-tailed Macaque , and Long-tailed Macaque.
