When staying with Daisy’s family in Yorba Linda, California, I often wake up early in the morning and take the short walk up to the southern end of Carbon Canyon Regional Park to do some birding. As I made my way into the park I spotted first one Coyote and then another and then another. Have you had a cool Coyote encounter?

Odd family trees, the Hippopotamus is closely related to whales, dolphins and porpoises, the elephant is closely related to manatees, dougongs (reasonable), and the little rock hyrax, yes a little mountain loving hamster is related to the thickest b h in the land, also horses are closely related to rhinos and tapirs.

They have recently lost the last of their juvenile fluff and it looks like they may be getting down to the serious business of raising a family! The flip-side to this is that nesting in an urban area versus a rural area provides the owls with more protection from natural predators like coyotes and bobcats.

Our small group spent a weekend at the Ferret Research Camp, a cluster of trailers tucked in the middle of a black-tailed prairie dog town and the site, as the name implies, of a black-footed ferret reintroduction program.

I come from a large family: five sisters, two brothers and almost everyone has kids. Most of my family lives in Indiana, but thanks to social media we can easily keep in touch. Case in point: some of my family members have become active with feral cat colony organizations. Are we going to put out food for coyotes?
