Coincidentally, last night was a board meeting for our homeowner's association, and though I wasn't on the agenda there's always time for homeowner comments about, say, the petting zoo and pony rides that are scheduled for the spring "BBQ" ( here 's part one of this story). And there's not much from the health angle for pony rides.

If you are looking for a wonderful gift for the animal lover in your life, visit The Magic Zoo. To be honest, it was actually really hard to pick because there are so many fun choices (the bunny, frogs, and birds were very tempting) but of course I had to get something to represent our sweet pup.

The species was bred at the zoo of Memphis, Tennesee ( source ). If you live in Australia, do not even think of getting this bird as a pet, as “99.99% of these Galahs sold in Australian markets are trapped from the wild” (source). I guess the females feel that the blue of the bower treasures works well with their eyes.

The Giant Laughingthrush is a bit of a disappointment in that it is not really big enough to eat you (or even a pet cat), even though that is what one would expect from an animal with the Giant part in its name. Louis, USA, you can see the species at your local zoo. Maybe the species has shrunk in the past few decades.

This bird was in serious trouble by the mid-19th century due to the adults being killed for food and young being taken for pets. Several European zoos had this species in their collections at the time, but they either made no effort to breed it or it did not breed well in captivity. … Extinction is forever. What a horror!
