Duck Numbers And Duck Stamp Sales No Longer Correlate

10,000 Birds

The number of people who hunt waterfowl in the US has declined since the mid 1990s. Decoy: Cabernet Sauvignon (2016)

10,000 Birds

It’s a corny joke, of course, but it makes me wonder if any duck decoys have ever actually been erroneously counted in the 119-year history of the Christmas Bird Count. The playful name admits the ruse, of course, and Decoy might be commended for their honesty. I suspect it’s quite possible.

Can Nature Take Care of Itself?

10,000 Birds

My work as a wildlife rehabilitator over the past forty-five years has allowed me a unique perspective on a disturbing trend. Consider this: ninety percent of birds treated at wildlife centers are admitted as a result of human interactions that have nothing to do with “nature.” He lay in a ditch with a spinal injury, unable to move.
