The book, which I have not read, that saved Derrick Jensen 's life is called The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice, and Sustainability by Lierre Keith, who was a vegan for 20 years, suffered serious medical problems, and started feeling better when she recommenced eating animals. Throughout the book, Keith mocks vegetarians and vegans.

One manager told PETA Eats that most people prefer the vegetarian lettuce wraps over those with chicken. Oh, the humanity! That's the only thing that's suitable for vegans.

My husband has two friends (a male/female couple) who are transitioning from vegetarian to vegan and I also have two friends (both women) who are transitioning from omnivore and all are dreading Thanksgiving. And of course if you correct someone and say "Dead Turkey Day," you're "buzzkill," or imposing your beliefs or being judgmental.

This last implies of course an improvement in ethics, as opposed to morality, as I have defined it, unless we already understand 'Do as you would be done by' as applicable to whales, cattle, chickens, and so on, as it is to human beings. I am myself not so heroic. I eat eggs though they may come from battery hens.

God thinks vegetarians are evil, and we want to please god. Of course, she teaches Jake the prayer that makes killing the animal all better. But in my experience, humans will draw from anybody's history--or dig their heels deep into their own--in order to justify what they want to do: Eat animals because they enjoy the taste of them.

In his fresh and candid first post (available here ), Jonathan admitted that he is struggling with the issue of ethical vegetarianism. He clearly thinks that it is wrong to cause animals to suffer unnecessarily, but he appears to be somewhat ambivalent about killing animals (provided the killing is carried out humanely).
