Out Birding to Help an Endemic Sparrow in Costa Rica

Today, along with teams in a few other parts of Costa Rica and elsewhere, I will be birding for a cause, watching birds to help one that only lives in Costa Rica, the Cabanis’s Ground-Sparrow. The Cabanis’s Ground-Sparrow is a bird in trouble. The White-eared Ground-Sparrow is much more common.

Best Bird of the Year for 2015

At least in the northeastern United States, their rate of so doing is high, according to research I summarized here. We’ll give Duncan a pass on this one… A sparrow? Yes, Dragan chose a sparrow. Another sparrow? The White-crowned Sparrows became 201. But still pretty amazing! It was as good as it gets.

Antpittas and Gnateaters: A Book Review

Patrick has had his share of sightings in Costa Rica as well. But, then again, this is an artist and photographer who has illustrated and co-written books on sparrows and moths! And, I looked at my eBird list and realized I’ve seen nine species of Antpitta and one of Gnateater.
