He was adopted by the Masson family and was apparently the most loving dog all who met him had ever had the pleasure of being licked by. And the crying would never stop.

Interesting that many of the grants this place gets specifically say they can't experiment on any domesticated animals (cats and dogs I guess.). There was a poster in the lunch room with four cute animals (a dog, cat, rabbit and something else.) But I did get to walk around the floor. It was a rather grim place. Weird, weird, weird.

The reason we need to save the gorillas and their habitats (it's a book on gorilla "conservation") is--and this is from memory so there could be more--that gorillas have thumbs, just like humans do. While visiting another set of children who have a lizard in a tank as well as a dog, the dog is called "he" but the lizard is called "it."

On Fighting for "Animal Rights"

They don't satisfy all of the requirements of Francione, but their goal is the abolition of the use of sentient nonhumans by humans. Fighting to maintain the integrity of the words humane, love, euthanasia or compassion, is also fighting for animals. They are abolitionists, just not Francione-style abolitionists.
