All companion animals including dogs, cats, hamsters, mice, rats, chinchillas, guinea pigs, birds, snakes, and lizards would be considered as pets. Pet sales would be banned altogether, except for the sale of pet fish. If it passes, San Francisco residents would have to go to a shelter or rescue group to adopt an animal.

Cats and dogs are the most popular pets, along with hamsters, rabbits and guinea pigs also being amongst the favourites. Although keeping goats does require a bit more work than keeping cats or hamsters, they will reward you with their intelligent personalities and social nature. But most of all Emmie loves Hamlet, her hamster. Emmie is fourteen years old and has loved several hamsters since she was seven: Carnie, Ophelia, Ichilles and now Hamlet. His gagging fits – like a cat trying in vain to cough-up a hairball – are becoming more frequent. Carnie, the first hamster, was the tragic one.

Start with easier pets – Many people don’t want to start with the responsibility of a dog or cat. Guinea pigs also do not bite, unlike hamsters and gerbils which can tend to be nippy. Cats for quiet kids – I find that cats are great pets for very introverted kids. If the animal gets sick at least seek treatment.

It would be far nicer if your friends and neighbors get to know and love your cat, which could become a familiar face for the community members in its own right. Of course, not all pets are cats and dogs. In this way, you and your dogs make new friends.

My boss couldn't take the dogs because he already has a very needy dog, a cat and a new baby. I have 5 cats and 3 hamsters, but still emailed my husband asking if we could take 2 labs. They only had until March 5 because the apartment they were moving to would not allow dogs. But he was worried.
