She keeps her cats inside. Unless she is accompanying her dog, he stays in a fenced-in area. She doesn’t use pesticides, she loves the local wildlife, and she does everything a good pet owner should do. She let her dog out, he spotted the rabbit, and took off like a bullet. All her pets are rescues.

Mites will eventually kill the bird. Bird brought in by a cat or dog. Even if you do not see an obvious wound, cat or dog saliva, which is full of nasty bacteria, can still get into a bird’s eyes/orifices and will eventually kill the bird; it will just die more slowly and painfully.
