Week Fourteen: The Center of Australia, and Sydney Part #1

This Pied Butcherbird was right at the base to Ayres Rock. Later the same day, this Wedge-tailed Eagle was circling right over our RV, in Erlunda, where I was later shown the nest that this beautiful bird has previously used. Sure enough, and group of 8 camels was not to far off the road, about 35 kilometers from Yulara.

Other species of plant that were flowering were the Mulla mulla , Camel bush , a native Hop bush and a variety of salt-bushes. Camel bush. But, that’s what it is all about… right??!! We actually have this species at home in our own garden, so it was nice to see the species so far away in the desert. Mulla mulla.

Birding the Dampier Downs Road

Along the track we noticed a variety of prints including birds, marsupials and more recently wild camels. The largest of the bird prints belonged to the Australian Bustard and we encountered one right against the track and I was able to take a photo through the car window without disturbing it. Velliia panduriformis.
