Here is a Los Angeles Times story about California's Proposition 2, which passed yesterday. On the other hand, it entrenches the idea that they may be used as mere means to human ends. I'm ambivalent about the proposition. On the one hand, it improves the lives of many farm animals.

Mountain Plover, California. 2018 was a good year for Mountain Plover in California, with a congregation (that is what you call a flock of plovers, says the Internets) seen regularly in Antelope Valley from early November on. In September, Abigail Ruth, a small human, was born and I became a grandmother. Well, not really a bird.
