This is the beginning of the cavity nesting season here in Northern California so I thought I would show you some of my favorite little dinosaurs. The cup is made up of dry grasses, rootlets, and weed stems, then lined with finer grasses, hair and fur. Click on photos for full sized images.

It had sleek black fur and I would estimate its size as being about the size of a full grown golden retriever with a very long tail larger then I've ever seen on a house cat. When we had signal again I immediately looked up black panther sightings in southern California but I can't find anything at all.

They bred on a number of islands near Japan and Taiwan, and ranged widely and abundantly from the Aleutian Islands south through California. According to the California Bird Police, they are now annual in California waters, but the easiest place to see them in the U.S. is on a boat in the Aleutian chain. Half Moon Bay, CA.

Also, they can hide behind floppy ears or in long fur. Be aware of areas where Lyme disease (a common tick-borne illness) is prevalent: the eastern coastal states and the north central states, especially parts of Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Wisconsin and northern California.
