Yes, it’s nice to have information on 817 birds, and it’s wonderful to have full descriptions and photographs of birds commonly seen in Central and South America. The source of this ranking, BirdLife International, lists Bolivia as currently having 1,439 bird species, including 18 breeding endemics. This is more than eBird reports–a checklist generated from the citizen science database lists only 1,413 species. Clearly, this is an under-birded country. . More on Species Accounts.

Consider their plumage, waterproof and dense like all aquatic birds, but each feather attached to their skin at a right angle with a curl to the tip which traps air against the body. Males of this species are more brightly colored in their non-breeding winter plumage. It occurs in forest edge in eastern South Africa, and in Fynbos , and even into arid areas, in the southern parts of the country. Greater Double-collared Sunbird (right) is less common and more localized than its smaller cousin.

All right, I’ll admit it. I’m feeling pretty good about myself right now. So yes, this appears to be a breeding population.]. And since I don’t go to the lake very often in late spring, I rarely get to see these Avocets in their breeding plumage. So yes, I am feeling pretty good right now.
