But one area that continues to provide them is the fight against the use of greyhounds as a source of entertainment (and gambling revenue) by forcing them to race. But for me, the number of adopted dogs doesn't make up for the fact that we have no right to breed dogs to use them as gambling chips. Some get adopted into great homes.

The dog breeding legislation, intended to outlaw “puppy-farming”, was prepared by Green Party leader and Minister for the Environment John Gormley. Fine Gael and rural Fianna Fáil backbenchers have called for greyhound breeders to be exempt because the industry is already regulated by existing legislation.

This is why I didn't campaign for a greyhound--it raises their profile. Not to mention the White House is not exactly the optimal environment for a greyhound.) Perhaps if there were a heartfelt message followed by action that supported it, no matter what breed were rescued, adoptions would increase. Maybe both.

But I didn't campaign for a presidential greyhound for exactly the same reason Obama's decision was disappointing: it glorifies pure breed dogs. They can say that the puppy was needing to be re-homed, therefore it's like adopting from a rescue group.
