Feral Cats in American Cities

The other day, Minneapolis, Minnesota passed a feral cat ordinance. So I put together a “carnival” (of sorts) of Feral Cat Ordinances and Issues that samples current events across the US. From the Star Tribune : Feral cats win a round at Minneapolis City Hall. This got me wondering what other cities were doing.

Kamikaze Pigeons and a War to Extinction

Two Feral Pigeons. Three Feral Pigeons. One more Feral Pigeon. One Feral Pigeon. There were several incidents involving poisoned Peregrines in that area, so the police and the SVS / BirdLife Switzerland started to investigate the case, assisted by the group of conservationists from Serbia ( the news in German ).

Empty Pied Oystercatcher nests

There was evidence of feral cats and now we have seen foxes around Broome we know they will also be a threat to our local shorebirds. Pied Oystercatcher chicks can swim, but maybe feral cats will too if they are hungry. Some nests had clearly been there for some time and had contained eggs until recently.

The predictability of Pied Oystercatchers

This is our thirteenth year of observing Pied Oystercatchers breed along the coast near Broome and it gets easier every year! They always nest from the end of June and they always nest in the same place or within a few metres if there is disturbance around the breeding territory. They are so predictable!
