There are 11 species of birds that breed in the Ross Sea region. The most numerous penguins are Emperor and Adélie Penguins , with 26 and 38 percent of the world’s population breeding in the Ross Sea, respectively. On the Balleny Islands Antarctic Fulmar , Antarctic Prion and Cape Petrel also breed. And the Mammals.

Come September most of the summer seabird people had left, but there were a small number of seabirds still breeding and so I stayed behind for three years to continue their monitoring and do the migrant landbird surveys, as well as the Great White Shark surveys. The island is a migrant trap supreme, but it is quieter in early September.

For 9 months of the year, this great, bellowing herd can be found in the Serengeti and watching the long lines of grunting wildebeest moving across the plains is truly a remarkable experience. This perennial watercourse is a haven for wildlife especially during the dry season when thousands of elephant and other game congregate here.

Not to mention, its brilliantly bulbous crimson throat, bloated during breeding season must be a sight! They really appeared to enjoy this, because as soon as they swam back to the rocks they would line up again to repeat the experience. The Magnificent Frigatebird is the bird I would want to see. I thought that was clever.
