As you can tell from this post starting with leaf warblers, the ornithological equivalent of watching paint dry (ok, a bit unfair and not really a good comparison anyway, but hey, write your own blog if you do not like mine). Maybe the males were not that impressive. Maybe the males in your local pub are not that impressive either.

Hybrid Teals

Mallards , of course, bring new meaning to the term dabbling duck , what with all those wild mallard hybrids and domestic cross-breeds running around. In my experience, Cinnamon Teal x Common or Green-winged Teal hybrids are the rarest; I have seen pictures of only 2 such birds and a 3rd bird (the one mentioned above) in life.

Seabirds: The New Identification Guide: An ID Guide Review

There is also a very nice comparison of the head and bill patterns of adult mollymawks, the medium-sized albatrosses. The description then goes into detail about adult (breeding and nonbreeding), juvenile, and immature plumage. This is the kind of material that makes this book special and essential for seabirding.
