Interestingly, Chestnut-collared Longspur does appear under its brand-new official name, Thick-billed Longspur, though the description underneath uses the old name. Using the icons to locate specific bird families takes a little getting used to, but if you do it often it works well as a finding tool. ” These are all great.

I also enjoyed reading the company histories of familiar brands like Duncraft, Kaytee, Droll Yankee, and Wagner all of which started as family companies, some as offshoots of other businesses, some as the result of clever inventions. I love feeding my birds, and there will be days when I’m content with that.

It is organized taxonomically, with families identified by first scientific and then popular name. Each family section starts with a brief description of the birds within that family, their common physical and behavioral traits, and range of habitat. Even during the breeding season the birds appear to be quite unwary of humans.

Members of the family Caprimulgidae don’t rank very high on any list of visually charismatic birds, so I was surprised to finally find one depicted on this week’s wine, the Bota Box Nighthawk Black Red Wine Blend. I can’t think of many easier or more pleasant ways to bird. And that’s what’s been happening for the last several years.

There are many more British species that resemble ours, but belong to different subfamilies or even families.
