The Shelter Pet Project is a wonderful public service campaign from The Humane Society, Maddie’s Fund and the Ad Council! The project goal is to help the many great pets waiting in shelters. The campaign motto is “a person is the best thing to happen to a shelter pet”!

Every year, roughly 3 million lost dogs and cats end up in shelters in the United States. Lost pets is a growing issue that teens care about. So DoSomething.org asked young people to submit ideas for reuniting pets with their owners. She’s also going to start a blog featuring photos of lost pets from her community!

I also wanted you to know about the Who’s Your Good Dog Campaign. In literature as well as life, the ideal is the safely rescued animal finds the perfect home and becomes the perfect pet. My second favorite rescue story is that of Hunter, a beagle-ish dog that my daughter and son-in-law adopted from a shelter in Massachusetts.
