Playing with the Pros

10,000 Birds

I have the photos of a standing White-faced Ibis next to wading Northern Pintails , Northern Shovelers , and American White Pelicans , to prove this.) Here are a few of the other photos that worked for me: This trio of American White Pelicans had its own duck groupies. This is only my second sighting of the species on Lake Cuitzeo.

El Pato Mexicano and more Monterrey marvels

10,000 Birds

There was a large raft of hundreds of American Coot , an American White Pelican and lots of duck species. A group of about 15 Least Sandpipers was feeding in the shallows. We checked out the shrubs for songbirds while returning to the car and were rewarded with a displaying Red-winged Blackbird. The birds warmed us too.

This group of American White Pelicans were good enough to stop right where I wanted them to, to get this shot.

Audubon Associate Naturalist, have led this tour many times, through tornados, droughts, questionable restaurants, and, sadly, the advent of fracking, and every one of my friends who has participated over the years has raved about the experience and the birds (in fact, one member of our group was on his third or fourth trip, I lost count).

A return visit to Summer Lake Refuge

10,000 Birds

The first stop, Summer Lake Wildlife Refuge in central Oregon is without a doubt one of the most important stop overs for migrating birds on the west coats, no matter the species. It was mixed in with the American White Pelican, in the photo above. Nearly every shallow water area a small group of Greater Yellowlegs.

10,000 Birds

The roadmap out of lockdown here in the UK has allowed us to meet up in small groups to indulge in outdoor activities, so birders have been gathering in loose flocks to greet the migrants as they head north.
