Shorebirds in Abaco, Bahamas

The sand exposed during low tide makes for excellent walking, and even better birding. Sure, I can see most of the birds in the Bahamas while living within Florida, but not in such stunning surroundings! I had only seen that distinctive feature once before, on the much darker sands of Folly Beach in South Carolina.

In defense of county listing

I realize that listing is a reviled in birding culture as it is celebrated, and more listing even more so, but hear me out here. I mean to make the argument that county listing is birding at its most pure, the ultimate combination of the two warring angels that sit upon each one of our shoulders. A fine bird for the county.

Introduction to Winter Sparrows of South Florida

The southeast tip of the Florida peninsula is not well endowed with a wide variety of sparrows in winter like the rest of the southeastern United States. We are just too far south for any of the above mentioned species, but that is not to say that we do not get any sparrows at all.
