Fur and Fangs rather than Feathers and Beaks

10,000 Birds

Note the short legs, stout body and white rump and tail I see Muntjac on virtually every birding (or dog-walking) outing, as these small Asian deer are now very numerous around my home in the Suffolk Brecks. I’ve yet to see one in the UK, but I had a memorable encounter with one while birding from a small boat on a river in Lithuania.

Keep finding decapitated mice/rats under car

Reddit Animals

5 or 6 times over the last year I have found decapitated or otherwise "dissassembled" mice or small rats near or under my car. Lots of squirrels, chipmunks, deer, rabbits. Birds seem to be mostly some kind of common looking grayish speckled yard birds that I don't know what they are.

Mammals of South Asia (Lynx Edicions)

10,000 Birds

I was lucky to visit India several times, but as a keen birder I carried along only a bird book, and even upgraded it to a new edition between the trips. Similar with bird books, the maps are as accurate as can be, but do not forget that they are showing our knowledge of mammal distributions, rather than their true ranges.

10,000 Birds

We started feeding mice, mealworms, and even some wild bird mix and leftovers, as they are scavengers. But this one was a bit different.

What’s In the Freezer for Tonight?

10,000 Birds

Normally I feed vultures, as well as hawks and owls, defrosted mice and rats. In any case: joining the already-packaged food items in my freezer are wild birds who didn’t make it. He ate through my remaining supply of rats and mice, as well as all my pinkies (hairless, day-old rodents, easily digestible and good for starvation cases).

Critter News

We get cats, mice, birds, squirrels and raccoons. Here is a picture of some mice feeding on bird seed we threw out for the birds. Our yard is pretty animal friendly.
