I have been rescuing animals, both wild and domestic, since I was a child. I’ve rescued field mice to horses, and everything in between. I’m allergic to cats, but in my lifetime I’ve rescued five of them. I look at the photo, and am enraged by how cruel and callous human beings can be. It sickens me.

It seemed whoever set the trap had ‘released’ the injured eagle upon finding him, as the bird could not have freed himself without the loss of the entire foot. The wound was also very contaminated with dirt and debris. This bird was lucky to be found and rescued by a Good Samaritan in this remote area.

It was Los Angeles, after all, where mileage has no bearing on time, but where time was precious for my little rescue on this crystal morning. Back then, I didn’t know enough about birds, but I knew a lot about cats. I was mortified.
