The adventure of the second European Breeding Bird Atlas, or EBBA2, was the topic of one of my first posts here at 10,000 Birds: In a warm Catalonian March, Barcelona is filled with sunlight and full of Rose-ringed and Monk Parakeets. In a very short time, we get two responses, two birds calling from opposite directions.

In our times, it seems foolish to be fearful of birds. But our ancestors weren’t always so lucky to appreciate birds the way we do. With enough imagination and superstition, some birds can be absolutely frightening – as the multitude of spooky fowl haunting the darkest corners of human culture throughout history will attest.

This thrush is extremely common in urban and suburban Germany and one of the most conspicuous bird species here, comparable to the American Robin in North America. A few dead birds were collected by authorities and sent to a laboratory for investigation. Some birds can be completely bald, resembling vultures.

Between Walpole and Denmark there are some great walking trails with spectacular views and the photo above is from the Conspicuous Cliffs , which you can reach in a conventional vehicle. Peaceful Bay does offer some protection from some of the wind and a few birds were encountered whilst in the area. Pied Oystercatchers.
