Birding Shanghai in January 2022

10,000 Birds

Good habitat, apparently, for a Pacific Reef Heron , though the East China Sea is only a peripheral arm of the Pacific and there are no reefs to be found here. Birding Shanghai in February 2022

10,000 Birds

If you think it is rather pretentious to start a birding blog post with a Kafka story, I fully agree with you. Anyway, the story is not quite how I remembered it, to be honest, but fitting enough to describe the almost claustrophobic birding experience in ever-shrinking Nanhui. Birding Tianmashan, Shanghai in January 2023

10,000 Birds

Sometimes I feel a bit like this about winter birding on Shanghai’s Tianmashan hill. The call of this bulbul seems quite similar to that of the Collared Finchbill to me, though given that I grew up listening to alternative and independent music rather than to bird song, this is not a very meaningful observation.
