There are a lot of birds in Washington, DC. Oh sure, you can go to Rock Creek Park or the Tidal Basin to seek out living avian species, or visitors can head to the Smithsonian museums for a dose of past and present bird lore from all over the world. In early June, I took note of each museum bird I spotted.

For a third year in a row, Birds and Booze has dipped on a bird-themed Champagne to recommend for New Year’s Eve. There just doesn’t seem to be much – if anything – out there, a scarcity addressed in last year’s Birds and Booze post for the New Year. Well, we’ve done it again.

As of this time, all Trader Joe's brand eggs come only from cage-free hens. Any conventional eggs sold in our stores are in a brand name carton, not under the Trader Joe's label. If, in fact, Trader Joe's deems debeaking as necessary, then this immediately reveals the high density of birds. But are they really free-range eggs?
