The Avibase China birdlist counts 7 species of minivets for China – one of which is the Ashy Minivet. For Japan, there are only two species listed – again the Ashy Minivet, but also the Japanese Minivet (mostly called Ryukyu Minivet elsewhere), a Japanese endemic which is not on the China list.

Birds The local birdlist has reached 462 species, and some 30 more are expected. There were two refilling stations at the hotel, and Manakin Nature Tours provided large plastic bags of water (kept in a cooler box) in the van or in the boat, but you need your own bottle when separated from the vehicle on a bird walk.

The Veliko Ratno Island birdlist is about 170 species long, of which more than 90 were observed from the Dorcol Promenade. The number of waterbirds around the island during cold spells goes up to 10,000, including some real gems.

In Serbia, such daily birdlists aren’t uncommon in spring, but September lists are usually closer to 40 or 50 species. As soon as it disappears, another eagle – Short-toed Snake Eagle appears, with a snake half dangling from its beak. Before the day ends, I will see some 74 species of birds – quite a good score.
