Memorable encounters with Mammals Part II It’s generally reckoned that there are more deer in Britain today than there were in the Middle Ages, a fact that is almost certainly true. Fallow have been present in Britain for many hundreds of years, but Sika, Muntjac and Chinese Water Deer are all relatively recent arrivals.

Like deer, seals, squirrels, foxes, raccoon, beavers, birds, rabbits etc submitted by /u/InternationalPay1357 [link] [comments] This is probably a dumb question but what wild animals can I pet like if I ran into a baby one? Or if one was injured? Like my human scent wouldn’t affect the relationship with the mom?

This trip was actually all about photographing the grizzly bears the inhabit the Katmai National Forest, I will not bore you with the flight details, from La Paz, Mexico to Alaska, but it included several planes, one of which was a De Havilland Beaver float plane. The number one bird on my list was the iconic Horned Puffin.

In addition to the birds, we saw Mule Deer, Beaver, Muskrat , and Mink. This is an interesting group, with a Black-necked Stilt, Northern Shovelers, Long-billed Dowitchers, and a couple of Least Sandpipers. All around our little campsite, we keep getting amazed but the diversity of the wildlife.

People also say that hyraxes are elephants, but they are so distant in their relationship that it is little different than saying that deer are a type of pronghorn antelope. You’ll hear people tell you that birds are dinosaurs, and that is supposed to blow you away and make you go all gaga about birds and evolution.
