The tracks of two young Polar Bear skirt a crack in the sea ice in Admiralty Inlet. Wildlife concentrates at the Floe Edge, and although we just missed Narwhal as pack ice moved in just after we arrived, the place was littered with Polar Bear. Though Corey had a host of good birds to choose from (again) he has decided that his Best Bird of the Weekend was the one he found because he took the time to scope through a ginormous flock of Canada Geese : a diminutive Cackling Goose at Blue Chip Farm in southern Ulster County, New York.

Reading Deb's post about the goslings at Poplar and getting Jenny 's request to sign a petition to save the Canada geese of Ballwin, Missouri from mass extermination reminded me how much I miss the wildlife at the neighborhood we lived in from 2002-early 2005. This is Girlie Girl. Not to be confused with Little Girl, of course.

Coming from Niagara Falls, New York, it also means freezing, bitter cold, watching for imaginary Polar Bears while pretending to walk through an Arctic landscape, and looking for owls. This year, visiting Niagara Falls until January 6th gave me the chance to experience a bit of both latitudes. Another year, another list.

We had persevered through four years at the top of Battery Harris Platform and could bring our experience to bear on the task of trying to record as many species as possible on a single day from that single spot. I had high hopes for the 5th Annual Queens County Bird Club Big Sit this past Saturday at Fort Tilden.
