Daisy had heard of an organization called YANA (You Are Not Alone), that was distributing relief supplies to those who had suffered from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, and that needed warm clothes and other supplies for children, so she prepared a box of clothes that Desi had outgrown, along with wipes and diapers. People are too.

If not knowing this information any longer and thus suspecting you might be suffering from dementia, there are always some other animals around to facilitate assisted suicide. Purple Herons are not very common and quite shy in Shanghai while here, they behave like they own the place.

The one downside: they make your feet incredibly stinky, but if that’s what I must suffer for foot comfort, so be it. The hand warmers in my pocket not only were relief for my fingers but kept my batteries in my camera a little warmer too, extending their life. Hats are a must.

Of course even though they may not have the capacity for happiness and suffering that whales have, nevertheless I would suppose that chickens can suffer quite a lot, even though their consciousness should be very much a sort of daze, and this should be taken into account in our dealings with them. I am myself not so heroic.

If meat-eating should ever become confined to those who do not care about animal suffering then compassionate farming would cease. All animals would be kept in battery conditions and the righteous vegetarians would exert no economic pressure on farmers to change their ways. Duty requires us, therefore, to eat our friends.
