Any California-raised person knows that it just doesn’t rain in California in June. I was raised in between the two cities, and visited that area earlier this month. I had thought that my camera use on two previous neighborhood outings was not enough to demand recharging its battery. I was wrong.

The bird life of Kruger National Park appears to be distilled into a small area surrounding the hide and they seem oblivious to the observers with their battery of lenses poking out from the wooden building. Raising two chicks to this stage is a reasonably good return on investment.

It was organized to boost eBird use, raise funds for bird conservation, and just get more people out birding. As for myself, I won’t be doing a full on Big Day because I already tried one a few weeks ago and need to recharge the Big Day batteries for a lot longer than a month before attempting (going through) that again.

By encouraging people to bake with higher welfare eggs (as well as organic milk, butter and chocolate) vital funds will be raised to campaign against battery cages. From the 6th -10th of July we are asking everyone to get their aprons on and bake with free-range or organic eggs.

All animals would be kept in battery conditions and the righteous vegetarians would exert no economic pressure on farmers to change their ways. Where there are conscientious carnivores, however, there is a motive to raise animals kindly. Duty requires us, therefore, to eat our friends.

While other people might trade barbs or even turn to fisticuffs, I'd dig deep for the most hurtful thing I could say, in the fewest words, and deliver it without even raising my voice. It's very, very easy for me to use language as a weapon; I've done that my whole life. Not a great quality, but dreadfully effective.
