A huge spiral-horned goat got trapped in a toy rope and choked. For example, there was a higher-than expected number of bats passing away each year between 2004 and 2008, but the zoo didn’t do anything to decide why. A hippo passed away following a long, horrible transfer from another zoo.

The graveyard shift is on duty: several bats are chasing insects through the evening coolness. Chamois is an agile goat-antelope with short hooked horns, found in mountainous areas of Europe from Spain to the Caucasus. The Song Thrush becomes silent. Does that mean that the big guy is around? The shades are impenetrable now.

Heading south on a good surfaced road, we made slow progress through the herds of cattle, donkeys and goats that thronged the highway, until we finally reached the land of the Konso. Pods of Hippopotamus snorted at us, however the keen birders were more enthralled at finding the highly localized Northern Masked Weaver.

Nor is the sight of the Greater Short-tailed Bat , which can still fly but instead chooses to scurry across the forest floor in the manner of a shrew. Here we find two of the most interesting members of the family, the Crested Moa , unique of course for the shaggy crest on its head, and the mountain-goat-like Upland Moa.
