Yellow-billed Spoonbills breeding

One bird species that we occasionally observe around Broome is the Yellow-billed Spoonbill, but we had not seen one for a few years until recently. We soon observed several bird species and then a Yellow-billed Spoonbill flew overhead. They are widespread throughout Australia , but it does not mean you necessarily easily observe them.

It is always hot in Kununurra and you can easily observe many of the bird species around town from your air-conditioned vehicle. Last week I introduced you to a family of Radjah Shelducks taking advantage of the channel. On our recent trip to Kununurra we travelled our usual route around the township.

Pasir Ris Park-Singapore

We started our Singapore bird list at Pasir Ris and leaving the train station we were delighted to see several Cattle Egrets on the grass and several photographers. There is a massive nest at the top of a tower beside the Sports Centre and a family of Monk Parakeets have taken up residence. Common Sandpiper. Monk Parakeet.

Cockatoo Creek

We have observed huge flocks of Galahs there on previous visits and other times there are more bird species, but only one or two of each species. Walking out onto the bridge we soon observed a good mixture of other bird species. Brolga had come into drink and there were all three species of Ibis present. Cattle Egret.

Wolfe Creek Crater birding

This is cattle country and it is actually fenced, which many parts of the Kimberley are not and you pass through Ruby Plains and then Carranya station to reach the crater. I am uncertain of the exact species of dragon that we commonly found on the rim. Dragon on the rim. Grevillea refracta. Grevillea wickhamii flowers. Mulla mulla.

Birding beyond Brisbane

We saw several of the kingfisher family whilst on our trip, including Azure Kingfisher, Red-backed Kingfisher and Sacred Kingfisher.
