I just found a stray dog with what looks like scabs from some wounds; it's full of flies, especially around the ears, has dark spots, and some parts of its body are without scabs. I don't know what to do; I can't take it to the vet. I've given it Ciprofloxacin and Metronidazole with bandages. Thank you.

Fortunately the donkey was rescued by the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad (SPANA). Here's what they say about "the Firing Squad," a horrible method of "treating" wounded work animals. They will be ‘fired’ with a red hot iron in the mistaken belief that it will cure a wound. He needed time to rest and recover.

The vet suggested hydrogen peroxide washes once it's been a few days but I don't like using that because it can kill some of the healthy cells as well, I've always been told not to put H.P. If we put the cone on he gets clearly frustrated and is running around, bumping into things, barking, crying, and scratching at the cone.

Owen County Friends of Animals (KY) is a non-profit organization that fosters and seeks adoptions for the dogs picked up by their local dog warden. He came to OCFA totally flea infested and with a few open wounds. One wound (the one on his front right leg) was to the bone. He has been vetted and is healing nicely.
