Domestic animal shelters don’t normally take wildlife and if they do it’s rare. Kitten milk replacement with heavy cream works in a pinch but squirrel or rabbit milk replacement is the only real substitute. It’s just not their function and against a few rules. I operate as a permitted rehab in Florida. I would rather educate.

There's nothing worse than one dead animal being partially responsible for the death of one live animal. I don't know if she was being sarcastic, but in my town I see dead armadillos, opossums, raccoons, all manner of turtles, and squirrels dead in the middle of the road frequently.

I’ve seen Secretarybirds zigzag after fleeing animals, spreading their huge wings periodically, presumably in an effort to maintain their balance as they twist and turn. On several occasions I’ve seen animals that are making a beeline towards shelter double-back when the wings are spread straight into their waiting talons.

Then there are the Wild Boars, Plantain Squirrels, Monitor Lizards and of course the bird-life. There are also shelters throughout the nature reserve should you be caught out by the weather. Well, not quite alone because you often encounter the Long-tailed Macaques as in the header photo! Also, don’t steal the birds!!
