One raft of 20+ Mallards swims by the bank, right in front of jackals, careless like if they were just two sheep! I am thrilled: this is more than just birding, this is a full-scale safari! Several Green Sandpipers , dozen Whiskered Terns and a few dozen Sand Martins (Bank Swallows) all make their appearance.

There are very few sheep in the meadows and too few animals end up dead in the open, where scavengers can get them. We approach a low limestone cliff topped with separate rock formations, like a medieval city wall topped with parapets that offered protection to defenders.
