There is not a slightest trace of asphalt, nor the promised sewage ponds, which may be good for the two Little Ringed Plover families incubating their eggs at the site as we speak, but is far from good for the people living there. And it gave me a sense of accomplishment. One more piece of a puzzle has found its place in the big picture.

So here it is, the review of Tracks and Signs of the Animals and Birds of Britain and Europe by Lars-Henrik Olsen. Examples are wolf, beaver, otter, domestic cat, wolverine, wild boar, elk (moose), and reindeer. Not only is it a superior guide to the tracks and signs of Europe’s animals, it is an exceptionally beautiful book.

For years it was a privately held nature museum and attraction, featuring animal enclosures, a fudge shop, and a “Mile-High” Swinging Bridge. In short, it’s exactly the sort of place that a family would visit even if there weren’t a state first record at the top of the mountain.
