Developed in the post-frontier era, the NAMWC helped put a stop to wanton wildlife destruction in an era where many species were being hunted and trapped ruthlessly to the brink of extinction. The system was intended as a hunter-centric model, both guided by and benefitting consumptive interests.

Now that the species is listed in the US as "threatened," hunters can't import the dead body parts (aka hunting "trophies") in from Canada. Michigan's removal of the bald eagle and gray wolf from the list will be the most significant change in species protection the state has seen in years. The delisting would not open the door for hunters to kill wolves, the state's DNR notes. Tags: bald eagle Gray Wolf us endangered species.

I finally read SPECIESISM , by Joan Dunayer, which was published a couple of years after ANIMAL EQUALITY , which I wrote about a couple of weeks ago. Whenever the media report that someone has killed "an endangered animal" or "an endangered species," they too confuse an individual with a species.

This may not seem like an animal issue, but it is. If McCain gets elected, then I can see the future of the Endangered Species Act, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Department of Agriculture, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, etc. A big F-U to animals.
