Choosing to adopt a dog rather than get one at the pet store (or what some like to refer to as “puppy mill”) is a beautiful thing—essentially you are saving a poor pup from euthanasia and you’re providing a an animal with a good home. So make sure that you can have animals and that your place is large enough.

This blog is written by writer, photographer, and animal advocate Ingrid Taylar. The bird was stripped of feathers and so badly battered that euthanasia was probable. I assume this personal tie is what brings many people to a wildlife hospital for the first time: empathy and sorrow for the single animal in their care.

My animal rescue-life has had many phases. From 2002-2005 I was heavily ensconced in a bird and waterfowl phase with sometimes daily drama of the life-and-death variety that led to my unintentional education about all things duck (Muscovies, in particular). In other words, I may as well have doused him in gasoline and set fire to him.
