However – and I am not saying this out of misplaced national pride – there is one bird in the Netherlands that proves Jefferson wrong and Buffon right: the White-tailed Eagle (or Sea Eagle ). It’s the only Dutch eagle. Our eagle makes Baldy look imparfait, even a bit manqué. It was awful. Buffon 5 – Jefferson 0.

The Reva Situation

Driving slowly along the track towards the levee separating this area from the Danube backwaters, a largish marten-like animal once ran across the track. Once I observed a man walking his two small dogs here, passing by a perched White-tailed Eagle but looking down at grass and not noticing the largest raptor in Europe at all.

The Top 5 Avian Ambassadors of Costa Rica

Some might even protest at being kept separate, raising their voices as they eye the main conference birds with hungry intent. The Rufous-naped Wren is a very animated, common species in Costa Rica. Maybe except for the gulls. Sadly, acts of terror being carried out by gulls could probably not be discounted.

We were able to take a thoroughly enjoyable boat ride on Lake Chamo, whose shores teem with birds, including such typical African species as African Fish Eagle, Goliath Heron the world’s largest, Yellow-billed Stork and the incomparable Hamerkop , a species in its own family. The future of these tribal cultures faces considerable uncertainty.

Birding Tongbiguan, Yunnan (part 2)

The Golden-throated Barbet has already launched several protests asking for a name change as it does not want to be associated with cannibalism – however, so far without success. It is also quite good at mimicry, imitating species such as the Crested Serpent-eagle, the Javan Cuckoo-shrike and the Orange-bellied Leafbird.
