Bird guide Bella remarked that the haircut of this Tufted Deer “looks stupid” Always good to travel with a highly qualified expert for valuable scientific comments. Among all mammals, I think I like monkeys the least. Due to massive use of Lightroom on my side, you can even see some of the red color of the animal.

It is technically correct, and recently fashionable, to insist that any living animal is a member of the larger group that contains it phylogenetically, i.e., ancestrally, with that group often named after the known animal that roots the tree. So, for example, humans are apes. The point is, of course, that whales are not cows.

People have moved useful plants and animals around with them as long as they had the wit to do so. So that New Zealand would end up with quite a few species of animal not originally found here is hardly surprising of itself. We don’t have monkeys, or wildebeest, or salmon here. In many ways, that is exactly what happened.

Searching for kiwi is unlike spotlighting that I’ve done while looking for nocturnal animals in the past. Hes previously poked albatrosses with sticks in Hawaii, provided target practice for gulls in California, chased monkeys up and down hills Uganda, wrestled sharks in the Bahamas and played God with grasshopper genetics in Namibia.
