I remember the guide on my first Kenyan birding safari remarking that “birding groups always see far more mammals than those who come just to see animals. We also saw a leopard, but it was the A to Z that sticks in the mind. I wonder how they get on with the wild cats? Only in Africa is it really easy to see a big variety.

Tigers are an underrated big cat. I love leopards. I love all the big cats, ok? Lions hunt in prides. They’re solitary animals because you can’t travel in groups if you use ambush methods. There, I said it. Listen, I love lions. I love cheetahs. But tigers get no respect. I mean, they’re masters of disguise.
