So here it is, the review of Tracks and Signs of the Animals and Birds of Britain and Europe by Lars-Henrik Olsen. The species accounts include a description of the main field characters (in case tracking an animal actually leads to an encouter!), I definitely recommend it to naturalists in North America and East Asia as well.

My transition from being a kid interested in all kinds of animals to being a full-on birder happened when I was around 11 years old, in the early 1980s (oh dear!). As cheesy as it may sound, these experiences with what I was taught all my life were foes wanting nothing more than my demise were life-changing. Azure T**s. For better.

They are not necessarily the biggest African animals, but represented those that were considered a real hunter’s worthy prey or “game” – the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhinoceros, Leopard and king of the jungle, the Lion (which of course doesn’t inhabit jungle but savanna!). In Asia they are even commonly kept as pets!
