The naturalist got out of his car, picked her up, took the tape off her legs, and took her to a local zoo. The very excited response was that she had been banded as a fledgling in 1983, which made her, at 27 years and 9 months of age, the second oldest living wild Red-tailed hawk ever recovered in all of North America.

There are the endemics, which are odd in their own way, and then there introduced species, which are so varied in their type and origin that you get the feeling you’ve arrived at the aftermath of a small zoo that escaped. California Quail are familiar birds to West Coast birders of North America, and Kiwis too now.

Like the Adjutants in Asia and Jabiru of the Americas, the Marabou is our bare-headed scavenging stork. It is also related to Wood Stork of the Americas and Milky Stork of Asia. Due to disturbance by fishermen, habitat destruction and nest robbing for zoos and bird collections, the Shoebill is now classified as vulnerable.

For some reason, even though there are Mandarin Ducks in zoos throughout New York City, this escapee has become an internationally known tourist attraction, even heading the New York Times list of “Five Times the Internet Was Actually Fun in 2018.” It has always been a difficult bird to find, even when abundant.

The definition of the word HUNT is “to chase or search for game or other wild animals for the purpose of catching or killing.” ” Obviously the dictionary does not equate hunting with conservation. If you have some insane idea that Hunting Is Conservation: I think we all remember the fate of the Passenger Pigeon ?
