That’s why the current trend to radio-tag birds reveals so much more than ringing, though it is of course vastly more expensive. One assumes Iceland, but there’s no proof.

Once again these tiny 5 gram satellite tags were deployed and since 2011 they have tracked the incredible journeys of several Cuckoos.
