I birded Uganda, which was my first time on the continent of Africa. On a twenty-four hour birding bender that had already netted me two state birds, including an amazing Burrowing Owl in Queens , I took a stop at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to see what was around. I saw 863 species of birds, bringing my life list to 1,820.

An update that of course thrills me is that Jamaica has decided to not grant permission for the introduction of greyhound racing (read the l etter from Bruce Golding, Jamaica's Prime Minister--it's only two sentence long, but it does the job). A less-than-thrilling update is that South Africa is still considering dog racing.

Visited this month were; Germany , France , Austria, South Africa, Hong Kong, USA, UK, Serbia, Costa Rica, Australia, China, Indonesia , Switzerland and Singapore). The year list has reached 2403 , a boost of 174 and the life list now stands at 3875 after beats’ efforts in Indonesia, South Africa and China added 39 ticks.

It takes a little longer for the hordes pouring out of Africa to reach the north of England, at least a week, often two after the first migrants make landfall on southern coasts before we get even a sniff of anything that has been near a Wildebeest over the winter. Join Mike in Jamaica!
