Did you know that every year, of the 8 million dogs and cats that enter animal shelters, 3 million of these healthy and treatable pets are euthanized? Luckily, The Shelter Pet Project hopes to change this! The campaign has one unified goal, to increase pet adoption. It is such a sad statistic.

Rock & Rawhide , a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that aims to increase adoptions for dogs and cats in shelters by providing toys and other items that serve as a form of distraction therapy, reducing the stress and noise levels. Research has shown that if noise and stress are reduced, adoptions go up!

Purina ONE® beyOnd® brand dog and cat food and GOOD have teamed up to host the Shine a Light on a Shelter challenge and award a $10,000 grant to an animal shelter doing great work. Rock & Rawhide , the charity that helps increase adoption levels of dogs and cats in shelters, announced today that it is included in Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C)’s latest advertising campaign, “New York’s Kindest” for their donations and assistance in increasing adoption levels through distraction therapy.

We wanted to share this great initiative called “Bowl by Bowl” that challenges negative perceptions of shelter pets as well as helps feed animals in need. Purina One will donate a bowl of food to a shelter for every quiz completed on their Facebook page. It’s such an easy way to provide help to homeless pets.

Purina ONE has teamed up with Martha Stewart to visit animal shelters from San Francisco to NYC throughout the month of February. At each stop, Purina ONE will give out free Purina ONE dog and cat food to all attendees (11,000 bags across the nation), and also host adoption events at local shelters.
