Henslow’s Sparrow at Jacob Riis Park, Queens, New York

He was with some other birders at Jacob Riis Park, out on the barrier beaches of Queens, and they were looking at a Henslow’s Sparrow that Patricia Lindsay had found. She asked if I wanted to go see the sparrow. Let’s take a moment here to understand why I was so psyched to see a Henslow’s Sparrow.

We had a nice collection of birds of prey for the day. and Canada, it had apparently discovered an abandoned nest, on which it was clearly showing nesting behavior. Was it practicing?
