He was with some other birders at Jacob Riis Park, out on the barrier beaches of Queens, and they were looking at a Henslow’s Sparrow that Patricia Lindsay had found. She asked if I wanted to go see the sparrow. Let’s take a moment here to understand why I was so psyched to see a Henslow’s Sparrow.

The southeast tip of the Florida peninsula is not well endowed with a wide variety of sparrows in winter like the rest of the southeastern United States. Barnes or Matheson Hammock will never produce sightings of any sparrow at all (and if you did, it would be a really good sighting).

Like many others, this village was totally abandoned and only recently repopulated, with a current population of only 18 people. At one occasion, during the hike Tsanakis collected wild mushrooms and in a restaurant, asked the chef to prepare those for us. House Sparrow – Passer domesticus. Serin – Serinus serinus.

Hearing and seeing a bluebird bring to his mind the process of tapping trees and boiling the sap collected down to syrup. He is happy the bluebird has returned and he hopes that it will nest by his house in “Downy’s cell,&# that is, the abandoned hole of a Downy Woodpecker. Get yours today!

Patrol and enforce wildlife-damaging violations, including the taking of endangered native plants, capturing turtles, riding ATV’s on pedestrian trails, and abandoning fishhooks. Remove Phragmites and replace it with cattails. Mow grasslands only once a year to arrest succession.

While I can’t convince myself to be excited about my First-Of-Year House Sparrows , almost anything else is exciting. We had a nice collection of birds of prey for the day. and Canada, it had apparently discovered an abandoned nest, on which it was clearly showing nesting behavior. Was it practicing?
